Daylight Savings???

In NSW, Australia Daylight savings for summer time is when you turn your clock forward an hour so you get extra day time in the evening. For example, non daylight savings starts to get dark about 5, 5:30pm whereas daylight savings it starts to get dark about 8pm.

This year my daughter will be 18months, 1.Has anyone been through it before?

2. Did it really disrupt sleeping patterns?

3. Is there anything that can be done to continue the same sleeping time &pattern?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in WA. They took ages to finally bring daylight savings in here, this will be our third year. They trialled it a few times over the last 10 years, most people like it but the farmers say it disrupts the cows or something that I dont understand! LOL

You may have to gradually adjust her bedtime by 10 minutes at a time over a few weeks to get her used to it. With older toddlers you often have to completely black out their room so it looks like it is later since at bedtime the sun is still bright and they think its still playtime.

i am from nsw and i never did anything different when daylight savings come in, i never had any issues, Saying that i now live in QLD which don't have it and i'm having more issues with no daylight savings then with... my son narmally get up between 7 an 8 am now its 6 to 7 am because its so bright here at that time, its sucks.....

I just kept my daughter up an extra hour, she was a little cranky for one night but the next night I went about our day as if nothing had changed and she went to bed when I put her to sleep no problems

I have never gotten my kids ready for the switch...they go to bed when I say and they wake up when I get them up or they wake a bit early and amuse themselves. My son is four and we have never had to do anything for him to switch. Muchless blackout his room or anything like that. My kids go to bed between 7 and 730 so it is usually light.

My son will be 18 months for our next time change. He did well for the last 2 so I don't foresee a problem. Although now that it is dark in the morning when we get up, he has a hard time getting up.

my children have a little trouble falling asleep becasue it's not "really" bedtime yet. i let them stay up like a half hour later, and then work back so they get used to going to bed at the correct time.

My son is 3 years old and I've never had any problems switching the clocks. If anything, he may wake up a little bit earlier that day or want to stay up a little bit later but generally by the next day he's back into his regular routine.

It's getting to be daylight savings time here in the US. Ours is about to move back an hour, so I'm slowly moving my sons bed time back each night. This is what has seemed to work for me the past year and 1/2.

I've read that if you adjust afternoon nap times / snack times and dinner times by 15 / 30 minutes per day and use blackout blinds that will assist in transition with minimal impact on sleeping patterns and early morning wake ups.

it didnt really affect my son the last two switches, we are in Canada, and when we went on Vacation they were two hours back and it worked out amazing because he went to bed so early there so it was amazing, my son goes to bed between 8-9 and wakes up between 8-9 so its already between an hour so if the clocks go back its not much of a difference, plus we will just have his routine back an hour as well and it wll be darker earlier

Well in the US it's the same thing. It confused my daughter at first to be going to bed when it was still sort of light outside but she got used to it. Just keep the same bedtime routine and you should be fine.
