I was on methadone the last 4 months of my pregnancy. Everyone around me was telling me what a good decision that I was making and in my heart I feel it was, but now my daughter is having an extensive stay in the hospital and I am seeing other people that stayed on street drugs leaving the hospital WITH their babies in just a few days. My daughter is going on the 5th week on being at the hospital. It's also very frustrating because she is on 2 different meds, and they were uping the one medication when come to find out she needed more of the other... The "other" is the one that she can come home on and 2 weeks ago, before they made this mistake they were saying she was coming home the next week. It's just so frustrating that b/c of their mistake I am missing time with my newborn. I do not have maternity leave so it's also very hard for me to be at the hospital for long periods of time. I wish I could live their with her but I'm just not financially set like that.

Do you mind telling us how many milligrams of methadone you were on when u delivered? I'm due in 3.5 weeks and tapered down to 20mg so far......I don't want my baby to withdraw....thanks for your input😄

Wow, I don't know how I would possibly handle this but you gotta give yourself credit that your going through it the best you can. Yes it might not be the situation but just remember that its only temporary, you'll be home with her soon enough even though every day feels like a lifetime. The important thing is that she is healthy before you take her home so as long as that is the first priority and you try to keep your mind clear as best as you can for her you'll be able to get through it.
