ampersand- but not the word he wanted "&". for a middle name but still symbols for babies?

There's tons of bad names he's had but he did name the youngest Vivian Rose.. so he has some taste. I had to point him in the direction I wanted, something old fashioned, not too used, doesn't sound like a 90 year old woman.

When I first said old fashioned he said Gretchen. ugh. Gertrude was the next. I learned to be specific.

My husband wanted to name our daughter Gadwall. For the duck, he's a duck hunter. No way was I going for that. Her name is Sophia. Then, when our son was born, he tried it again. His name is Grady. He always called them Gadwall in my stomach, though. :)

In my experience, it's always been me who wanted to name the children weird names. I really really wanted to call my daughter Iracebeth, but my husband forbade me. I also joked about calling my elder son Dwain Pipe.

I misread. Sometimes I have to look things up to see what they mean. such as,SMH. Just wanted to make sure a kid didn't pull the wool over your eyes :)

my husband keeps teasing that we are naming our bun in the oven Spartacus Achilles, and he will be born wielding a sword and shield so that he may go slay his first lion (meal). every time I mention an undesirable pregnancy symptom he tells me Spartacus is not pleased and wants lion. so silly!

I have been reading the posts here and some of them are funny now that the kids are either grown or growing up. My sister has one child. She is almost 20 now but when my sister was having her she came up with some really good ones (NOT). As kids we learned that our mother's mom had changed her first name as she hated her given name of Eunice Frances. We both swore never to name a child that when we had our own. Well, in consideration of names my sister chose to think about Eunice Frances in a serious way as well as Hadossa (not sure of spelling but its an old Biblical name. I thought she was nuts thinking of those names for a girl. Her boy names were better though: Malich. I can not remember the names besides that one. In the end my niece ended up with the name Kayla.

Oh that reminds me when my grandmother asked me why dont younger people just write Wheres the Food out and why are they always looking for food it just doesnt make sense. Lol she is so funny when it comes to computers, she has just started with it and has facebook so guess my granny is cooler than me cause i dont have facebook. She bragged to me that her computer has even got google and windows...lol.
I guess it would be quite expensive and alot of work to change all ids, bankcards, drivers license etc. My mom is only embaressed when people call her by her real name when they dont know her like by a doctor appointment or you know just the times where people first read her real name.

It's said english.

Changing names isn't hard to do at all. Like a page of paperwork, bring in your current ID, birth certificate, and social. I'm sure as an adult it will be a little harder since you have to change it on banks, pay stubs so on and so forth but as a teen it isn't too bad. I notify the social security office of it, get his new card and let the school know. It only cost $65 in NY.

I've always called him Will. I don't like the fact he choose his middle name based on the fact his initials will be WTF. He disliked his name so I understand. His father is fine with it as long as his last name stays intact. I told him he had to be sure of the new name for one year before I was willing to change it.

Geneviève is my grandmothers name. I don't like her. My father-in-law wanted me to use the name.

Yes I do have boys, one is Augustus Wilbert (he's a jr) and Tyler Michael. Augustus is changing his name to William Theodore since everyone calls him Will. We're waiting for his dad to sign the paperwork which he said he would.

We were listening to alot of Dwight Yoakam at the time i fell pregnant so first my husband wanted a little Dwight,i was ok with that till i mentioned it to my mom and she just couldnt pronounce it right..she said Twight and all my other family members (not english speaking )also pronounced it Twight so i said there is no way we are naming him Dwight. Then my hubby suggested Buck Hank Bear (Buck because of Buck Owens Hank,Hank William and Bear because of Bear Grylls) ... Aaargh. We then agreed to the name Leon i wanted because of Leon Schuster a name to remind me of home (South Africa) . And my hubby was ok with it because a film with Jean Reno was called Leon...Then we found out that Leon was the top 1name at the time and everybody was naming their boys Leon..so we didnt want Leon anymore. Then i remembered the name we once heard in a film we watched when we first got together and we then said if we ever have a son together we will name him that.... And thats why our sons name is Amon (the a is pronounced like a u in Umbrella). We havent met any other Amon and i love it.His full name is Amon Robert Neil. Robert is my husbands name and Neil is my fathers name.

I have to say when you like a name you don't want to hear they could get picked on. My hubby said Adele will have kids singing "the farmer and Adele" I said so what? Every name can be picked on.

Hopefully the singer Adele doesn't ruin the name... Then I'll be screwed.

Cecilla, it took a couple of weeks to get him to understand that he could end up being picked on over that name. Also what if he had hated Star Wars!! He would have hated us for the rest of our lives....well maybe not me so much! LOL! But at least he did not think that such an old name as Simeon was something to be weird or ashamed of to have. He loves it! He wants to change his first name to that. If my grandmother could hear him now!!! She would be so pleased!

Evelyn, omg we had that issue too. He wanted to use weird names like that for a boy. I found a solution to that for boys names. Xavier Logan was the compromise. Xavier is professor x's name. Logan is wolverine's name. (from x-men) I don't remember the actual names he wanted. They were comic books though.

Very neat names, ladies. With my first (now 23) we had a boy's name all picked out--Jeffery Logan. But we could not find a girl's name until my mom suggested Elizabeth who was also the child of a family friend. That stuck. We came up with a middle name that worked...Dawn. Jump forward six years....I find out I am expecting again and this time my Beth is six years old. She is very happy at the prospect of a sister coming to her. So we decided to let her choose the girl names and my now ex-husband chose boy names. Needless to say, coming out of a six year old girl, I expected some weird stuff. Beth chose the names Emily and Rebecca because she liked them both and could not think of anything else. So their dad decided to go with Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars first thing. I put my foot down and told him that we might be hated for the rest of our lives if this child was named a name he did not like let alone where it came from. From then on it was a hit or miss about every two weeks. When he was about due, their dad finally picked up a Bible and opened to where the disciples were called to join Jesus and the first two were Simon and Andrew. BINGO!!!! We both loved the names and when we decided that match would work we turned it around to Andrew Simon but with one thing: I told my ex that I would spell the middle name and he was not so sure. I changed the spelling to Simeon wihich is the French version of the name. When my dad's mother found out she was so pleased with that. When she held him for the first time she could see my grandfather's eyes in his. Six years later she passed away. And to this day, my son loves his name though he wants to use Simeon more than Andrew. So much for Anakin Skywalker.

LOL @ Skip. Maybe he thinks he naming a puppy. I just hear the nickname Skippy in my head. I think he said "&" to get a rise out of me. I didn't take his opinion at all first the first girl we had together. He never liked the name I choose but I was stuck on it.

I named her Adele Cosette. (which funny enough I got Cosette from Les Miserables) I found out later the writer had a Daughter named Adele. I choose Adele because it is a variation of my middle name. I wanted to name my girl after me.
