My boyfriend and I are arguing about whether we should teach our kids to not talk with their mouths full or if we should be teaching them to not talk with food in their mouths (meaning any amount what so ever)? So please give me your opinion... Is it mouth full.....or food in your mouth period? Thanks for your input =)

No taking with food in mouth. Nobody wants to see or hear chewed up food

Thank you for all the opinions. We are teaching our kids to not talk with food in their mouths but my 3 year old daughter sometimes does (and my 10 yr old son). So I was saying to them "don't talk with your mouth full" and my boyfriend was arguing that we should be saying "don't talk with any amount of food in your mouth" I guess I felt like it was more important that they not talk when their mouths are full and we couldn't understand them. But I agree that as an adult you shouldn't so I have since changed what I say to any amount at all. I have heard the rule stated both ways though from various different people.

We were also told not to eat & drink at the same time. You don't open your mouth whilst there's food in it to take in some liquid. You first swallow your food and then you can take a drink.

Over and over again though, as a child I saw adult speaking with food in their mouths and also taking a drink with food in!

Do you actually HAVE kids yet? You talk about discussing this with your boyfriend, but you don't mention anything about your kids doing it!

Haha Ella that's great if your family has a great time together in that way! I just don't like it, that's all. It's not like, "you're going to be grounded if I see the food in your mouth!"

I think there's worse things an adult could be doing than eating with there mouth open,I'd rather see a loving kind adult eating with there mouth open than a adult who's just plain arrogant or aggressive I do value everyone opinion but some times I do wonder weather parents sweat the small stuff to much,I love to sit round a table enjoying my food with my family, having a great chin wag, even if a bit of shepards pie gets sprayed in my eye lol joke

I think it is bad manners to speak with food in your mouth, and once they are old enough, I think they should learn to chew with their mouths closed as well. I think there are few things as disgusting as an adult who chews with their mouth open. Just my opinion.

Unless it's an emergency, my kid better not dare to talk with any food in her mouth, and she knows it! lol Not only is it a choking hazard, but it's disgusting as well.

I tell my kids not to talk with ANY food in their mouths. I don't want them choking. Sounds like semantics to me.

I've said both, but always meant any amount of food. But in my mind any food in your mouth is a mouth full off food. It isn't just about no being able to understand someone, it is just plain disgusting to see food in someone's mouth.
