If you don't need for him to have it... there is no reason for him to have it. He is having a 'tantrum' like a toddler. If you give in then he will have won and you will be teaching him that he can manipulate you to get what he wants. Your 12 year old has given you the silent treatment? Be grateful. lol

If he REALLY wants a phone he can write up a list of all the reasons (other than just that his friends have one... cuz that's a pathetic reason to do anything) a phone would be a good thing... and he can work up a plan to pay for the service... either by actually earning the money or doing extra chores.

If he NEEDS something... it is your job to provide it. If he WANTS something... it is his job to earn it. If you needed him to have the phone he would already have it. It's just something he wants, so he's old enough to learn how to make it happen... or suck it up and live w/out it.

Having a basic talk and text only phone does give him some freedom and a chance to learn some responsibility and accountability... but if YOU don't want him to have one.... you're the boss and it's ultimately your decision.
