I went on depo in early 2002 after my girls (twins) were born in December 2001. I stopped depo late 2004 and was on birth control pills until May 1, 2005. The first time I got pregnant after that was December 2005. Lost that baby in January/February 2006. Got pregnant again November/December 2006. Lost that baby January/February 2007. Finally got pregnant w/ my 'keeper' and my son was born March 2008.

So... I was completely off of all birth control for just under 3 years before my son was born. There is a 6.25 year difference between him and his twin sisters and I think it's a good age difference.

My personal opinion is that depo is evil and I would never encourage anyone to take it for any reason. I hope your luck is better than mine!

I also should add that before I got pregnant w/ my twins... I was on birth control pills for maybe about 8 months. I went off the pills and two months later we started trying to get pregnant.... I got pregnant the very first month we started trying. That would be one of the main reasons that I blame depo for my problems w/ trying to get and stay pregnant.

I was on the Depo shot for 2 years after my daughter was born, in 2005. I got off of it when I got married in 2007 and we have yet to be able to have a child together. One thing I have noticed that was different from before I started the shot and after I stopped it is my periods are awful! For the last 4 years I have had the worst periods of my life :( We would love to have a baby together but I think depo has ruined that chance for us.

I had been on depo for years and came off it a year and 1 month later i became pregnant after 1 period. Everyone is different so you could become pregnant straight away or it could take a few months i would wait untill living together o married before getting pregnant. I have an age gap of 4 years between my first child and 18 months between second and third child.Having a larger age gap was eaisier when they were small but now when a little older the 2 younger ones spend a lot ov time together. Take your time kids are for life sometimes men don't stick around, give yourself time to have a relationship before having kids that put a strain on relationships.x

it can take between 18 months to 2 full years to return to your normal state of fertility. now this doesn't always happen, i went on depo after my first daughter was born(she was about 8 months old) but didnt continue past 3 shots, i didnt want that lag. i got pregnant when she was about 20 months old, so it only took me 3 months to get pregnant. i think for long time user it could take longer. talk to your doctor, but stop the shots in the meantime...

It really depends on your body. When I last had one I didn't get my period for a whole year almost. It took me that long to get pregnant. My kids are 3 and 1

HI I was on the depo after having my 1st child, I had to go on it as I can't take any other form of oral contraception. I hated it, I was always spotting 24/7 and felt crappy. I was on it for about 12 months then never went back on it as my husband and I thought we will start trying for another child, we kept trying and trying and after about 18mths of trying I went to get some help and found out that the depo had stopped my body from ovulating all together even though I was still getting a period I wasn't ovulating, ended up having to go on all sorts of hormone drugs to get my body back to normal and then finally 3 years later fell pregant naturally with Twins. I am so very against the depo now and will never go back on it but that is just my opinion, so if you are wanting to try for another I would get yourself checked out and do a few test to make sure you are ovulating instead of having the heartache of not being able to fall pregnant easily. Good Luck

I was on Depo and DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! I was moody and depressed. I ended up just not getting the last scheduled shot because I was beginning to become suicidal,,,My thoughts - stay off Depo & use another form of birth control until you are ready for another baby...

I have been on depo-prevara for 3 weeks shy of 10 years. Since the day my son was born, he will be ten 09/05/11. Considering the shot last 3 months but it does take time for your cycle to get back to normal. Doctors say about a year is a normal time frame. Depr prevents the lining of the uterus from builing up hence the reason there is no period. You do not ovulate therefore you cannot get pregnant. Hope this helps.

I was on the depo shot, decided that i would be ready for baby #2 within a year or two, so didn't get the next shot at that time (should have been on Dec. 15... I was pregnant with twins before January... the doctor thinks because of teh depo shot I dropped more eggs than "normal" and that's how I got twins.. everyone is different.. this was over 16 years ago.. the literature on it at that time said "it could take 12-24 months after your last injection to get pregnant"... So.. if you decide to stop it but still aren't quite ready to get pregnant, use protection just in case! :)

Coming off hormone BC is always going to be different from user to user. See your Gyno to find out what kind of things you need to do to get ready to have a healthy pregnancy (ie. folic acid, dietary changes and supplements). It's never too early to plan. Having another child is a big step within a committed, stable, married relationship so be sure that the relationship is ready for such a big change before you introduce a child to the equation.

I know someone who got pregnant while on the shot and others that it has taken a year or two after stopping it to become pregnant. So, I would say, if you know you want more kids and if it happens fairly quick, isn't an issue, I wouldn't get another shot.

I never took depo, but I know someone who got pregnant while they were getting the shot. Everyone is different when it comes to stopping birth control. I was on the pill and it took my husband and I 6 months afterward to make our babies. There are lots of other (non-medication) options for birth control, if you don't want to have the shot, but aren't sure your ready for more babies. Good luck with your "new" relationship! :)
