Hello I am a young single mom to a two year old. I love being a mom and I am also a full time college student. Lately though I have been suffering from not feeling well. I went to the doctor thinking I was ill, but it turns out I have depression and anxiety. I defnetly belive I have anxiety, but I don't really feel sad. I just feel horrible almost everyday. My doctor put me on Celexa and Propranol to lower my blood pressure. I feel like sometimes it will suppress my anxiety, but I still do not feel well. I sometimes feel like my illness takes over my life. I have never had an issue with this in the past. I just want my life back and I want to feel good again. Has anyone overcome this or have any tips. I have been on my medicine for like three months. I just don't know if it is fixing the issue. I just want to feel better and be the best mom I can be.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Yes I have suffered from anxiety and depression. From my experience and research I have found that it is usually caused by stress or by feeling like you can't control the situations around you. Being a single Mom of a 2 year old and also a full time college student is a lot to have on your plate. What kind of support system do you have? Being around others and receiving encouragement and help is very important. Don't try to do this alone. I have listened to New Life radio call in program for a long time. The opinion of the counselors is that medication does not, and was never intended to be, the cure all. They say that if you don't get to the root cause of what is causing the anxiety and depression that you will just become dependent on drugs. I have found this to be true. I have read so many books on the topic. A couple good ones are Adrenaline & Stress by Dr. Archibald Hart; Anxious by Amy Simpson; and Take Your Life Back by Dr. David Stoop. Having faith in God, who loves you and knows all that you are going through is very important also. I am saying a prayer for you that you will find healing, hope and peace.
