After years of dealing with 6 diagnoses, drugs, wilderness and boarding school, Alanon & her intermittent drug and alcohol recoveries, my 19 year old now sober again for 4 months ( 1 year was her longest), & back at home. We have spent almost $200,000 almost lost my house and seen inspiriting progress. She is attending local college and in now bed with depression. Having learned "detached love" via AA and knowing that clinical depression is real and paralyzing, I am being supportive and loving. She will not take drugs (which I understand) and yet refuses help. She got up for school today, but I am a mess. As a professor and therapist I am at a loss personally. My family is not here and I am ready to quit. I don't know how to go on. I am 72 and she is a child of a surrogate with her father's genes. Her dad left her at 2 and sees her very little. Yikes.
