My son is 6 mo old. I got my Diaper Genie from my baby shower i love the way the bags are you just put them in tie them off and when it's time to change you cut the bag on the inside it's like a seam ripper, then pull down the bag and tie off again. I'm lazy so having it all right there is ideal for me. Just wish the bags weren't see throw. If your squeamish have your hubby take it out lol. I also wish the had a bigger size but as far as i can tell they come in size. which is about my hip. Have to take it out once every 3-4 days. And he's only in size 4 Diapers, Was once a week in size 3. Can imagine have to take it out once or twice a day by the time he's potty training. My husbands 6 year old have overnight pull ups for wetting the bed, we just toss them in the bathroom trash can. Any way there's my Pros and Cons. P.S if the sold a Diaper Genie System Trash can that was full size i would so put them in every room in my house.

Try the Diaper Champ instead. It will take regular garbage bags and holds quite a few diaper bags. It also keeps the smell away too.

They are not worth the money at all-I actually had 2 of them (a second one to replace the first one) for my daughter and no matter what, the smell became horrible! For my son all we do is have a Safety First diaper pail for pee diapers and send the poop ones outside in the trash in a plastic bag-this a cheaper and much less smellier solution for us!

I have one and it's great, keeps the smell away, I wouldn't go back to a garbage can after having it.

A covered trash can works just as well if you keep the lid shut and take it out often.  Or, do what I do - wrap the stinky ones in a grocery sack and put that in the regualr garbage.  I have 3 kids in diapers right now and my genie is up in a closet collecting dust!

Everyone has their own opinion.  I absolutely loved my diaper genie and it definitely kept the dirty diaper smell out of my son's nursery.  I didn't have any issues with how much it could hold.  I emptied it once maybe twice a week depending on if we were home more that week or not.

I used the diaper disposal bags at the Dollar Tree. They are scented and you get 100 for a buck!! Works Great!

I had a diaper Genie with my oldest one just because it was a baby shower gift but I found it was more trouble than it was worth. It was easier to just put the diapers in the trash which went out daily anyway. When the diapers were newborn they didnt smell that bad since I breast fed and once they got into bigger diapers the Genie didnt hold enough and I had to change it every other day anyway . I just took it to the church nursery for use there since the nursery trash has to be changed after every service. With my other 2 kids I just used the trash .

I used the Diaper Genie with my first son. It was convienient, but it took a little while to fill it, and then the smell was HORRIBLE when it came time to change the bags. Plus, sometimes the pee would leak out of the diapers, and collect at the bottom, making it smell further. Also, the act of refilling it with the bags was quite tricky - took a while to figure it out!

With my second son, I used a regular garbage can with a good lid. I found I emptied it more often and didn't smell.

So from experience, the diaper genie is just a new gadget for your first baby, all new and interesting, but really, it's a waste of money.

I still use mine and my daughter is almost 3. I only use it fir poopie diapers. Hopefully she'll have an interest in potty training soon. We have another on the way and I'll use it again. It really saves the house from smelling like dirty diapers. Just keep it somewhere you'll use it. I didn't use it for a while because I kept it in my daughters room and I never changed diapers there (on the 2nd floor) but ionce I moved it to a place where it was convienent I used it.

I found the genie annoying. I think recycled grocery bags in a good metal garbage can with a lid do a better job.

ok the regular diaper genies are crap, so if you get one be sure to get the diaper genie II.  Yes, they are worth it, which they arent really alot of money.  Dont buy the diaper pail from Walmart or use trash cans with the lid you step to open, bc if ou do the smell hits you in the face.  I loved the diaper genie II, but when we moved our movers seemed to "misplace" it...ha I think one of them took it home.

That thing is a waste of MONEY!!!!! do not under any circumstances waste your time!

Buy the scented diaper dipoal bags. They work way better than the Genie... Gewnie my foot... the only good thing that came of that genie is that my daughter used it as a seat when she broke hers for her table!

I like my diaper genie 2. It is nice for stinky diapers, but we put some hooks on the side of her changing table and a walmart sack for wet ones. The only thing is when emptying the diaper genie it does stink, but just for a little bit. My sisters both did not like theirs.

I had one, and while it did cut down on the smell, I eventually ended up using small plastic bags I got from the grocery store anyway. The refills were expensive and I didnt see the need.

Diaper pails are great until your baby starts eating solid foods. At that point there isn't a contraption in the world that will contain the funk of a poopy diaper.

Take it from me, it is worthless!! Go exchange this gift for something more useful. Put the dirty diapers in a plastic bag and toss them in the trash. It is an annoying peice of equipment that is difficult to use. Sorry diaper Genie Co.!!

Worthless, but the one i reccommend, takes any type of trash bag and is easy to clean!!! I got it at Baby'R' Us and it has a handle at the top that you flip the diaper down in the bag...  Look around for a can that doesn't take a special type of bag... who needs to remember to get those when you have some many other things on your mind with a little bundle of joy!!

I have five kids and I have always used disposable plastic grocery store bags. Just put the diaper in and tie shut. It's free and it conceals the smell.

I think the diaper genie is a waste of money. You can do the same thing by tieing the dirty/soiled diapers in a plastic bag and discarding them in a garbage pail. It almost as bad as the wipes warmer which you have to add water to or the wipes dry out. (Plus, how many times when you are away from home are you actually going to have a 'warm' wipe??)

It is the baby market's way of sucking you in to the money pit...

Save your money. Don't bother. I used it for my first born. Now (for the second child), I just put the dirty diaper in a plastic bag and throw it right into the regular garbage. Works just as well.

I wouldn't get one. I simply use old Wal-Mart plastic bags. I put the soiled diaper in, twist the bag and double it over the diaper agin before tying it off and throwing it in the trash. Doing this has never caused any oder problems and it saved the time and money. I actually got one with our first daughter as a gift and I used it for a while but it began to smell horrible and we just threw it away.

I wouldnt even bother...it doesnt hold that many diapers and its so expensive to get in the first place, let alone the refills! And I can still manage to smell the diapers!!!

I have the doaper genie # 2 and have been using it for the past 8 months, I couldnt live with out it. It takes quite alot of diapers to fill it and it holds the smell in. Great Item to buy have recommended it to all my friends.

Ya its worth it... it works well. The garbage smells so bad if you just toss it in the garbage. We usually only have to take it out every 2 weeks but I really wrap those suckers up tight so. When you warp them up tight the bags hold more to... we only have to buy replacements every month and a half... shes 6 months old and I think we bought 4 replacements?

Yes, I thought it was. Mine kept the stink in well. When you walked into the nursery, you certainly did not smell dirty diapers. If you use it correctly, and empty it when it is full, yes it is worth it and works well.

YES - so worth it - it controls the smell so much. It sounds gross but with a little one you have NO TIME. SO it'll hold 10 diapers at a time and not stink till you empty it. The diapers come out twisted like a sausage link. (You will never look at sausage the same way again)

It is great for us. We have a dog that likes to get into the trash. The diaper genie keeps her out of it. It also holds in the smell of the dirty diapers.

DIAPER CHAMP-- worth the $, use any garbage bag you want and I used the same one for both my boys.  Just stopped using it as my youngest turned 2, not as many diapers to worry about anymore and the regular garbage can is easier now.

Don't buy a diaper genie! No, no, no. It's worthless and a waste of money. I had one and used it for a few weeks and then gave it away to a friend who in return gave it away soon after.

I always just set a can outside my back door and when I changed a stinky diaper I threw it outside....one less trip to the store to  buy something......

I agree with buying the Diaper Champ instead. You can use your own garbage bags. But I definitely wouldn't go without something. I have 3 month old twins, and I can't imagine running out to the garbage every time we have a dirty diaper around here! We actually have 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs, but we use the upstairs one way more.

I loved it when my daughter was a baby; the refills get costly though. As she got bigger I switched to bagging them myself. But in the beginning, when babies pee and poop lots, it was a time saver for me and masked any yucky smells!

[deleted account]

NO! Do not waste your money. I think it is a marketing scheme to get you to keep buying thier refill bags. Just throw them in the normal garbage can. You can roll up the diapers and "seal" them shut with the tabs and just throw them in the normal garbage can. Sometimes if you have a normal garbage can in the nursery it can start to smell after a few days so I would recommend just changing hte bag every couple days or putting them in the kitchen pail - I'm sure you change bags there often enough. I guarantee it will not smell. I actually use cloth diapers and one tip for the dirty cloth diaper pail is to let air get to it - which seems counterintuitive - but actually the air getting to it keeps it from stinking up the whole room. Not letting air get to it, like the diaper genie, contains the smell and the pail would stink. I have heard of moms using the DG for the first child thinking they need it and not for the second because they realize it is unnecessary.

Oh my Gosh I love it! I have a 7 month old...and we have the Genie II. It's so helpful to have next to the changing table and it really does get rid of the smell!! Especially when you switch to solid foods! YIKES! It isn't that expensive, and it's a really nice way to contain the diapers, and very easy to unload the bag (just tie it closed), and toss it in the trash.

I had a Diaper Genie and hated it! too complicated and too expensive with buying the special bags. Try the Diaper Champ. My friend just bought one for me and it is a miracle! NO SMELL! My son is 16 months and we had been using a regular trash can as a diaper pail and had to move it out of his room it was so stinky! The diaper champ is now in his room and I can't smell a thing, and you can use any type of bags for it!

I used Safety 1 ,and now its hard to find the refill bags so we use a stainless steel can,and the smell is so bad not just when you put a diaper in,the bad odor stays for a while,so wherever you put it that room will stink!!!If you wrap your diapers very tight you can put a lot in it before you have to change. My Safety 1 was worth it.
