My daughters behaviour is dreadful at the minute. The only way she seems to behave is when threatened with a bare bottom spanking and then carrying it out. She is 7 years old. Does anyone else spank this way? How old do you think it's acceptable till?

As usual, "we" all "assume" things...and "we" all are wrong...That's what I got out of that whole exchange.

Oh well, as always, I advocate for age appropriate COMMUNICATION, rather than assault, and potential abuse. Around here, a bare-assed whipping IS CONSIDERED child abuse, whether you use an 'implement' or not. A spanking OVER CLOTHING is considered discipline, but not a bare-assed one.

Just sayin'

LOL, I just found the closed conversation....it seems this OP isn't after anyone who disagrees with her discipline methods.

Well, clearly it ISN'T actually working threatening the bare bottom spanking, because you then have to carry it out.

Spanking a bare bottom is NEVER okay - that could be considered sexual assault. And you shouldn't have to spank a 7 year old - there are other ways you can more effectively discipline a 7 year old.

What is the problem with the behaviour?

A spanking can 'work' for the short term, but does nothing helpful in the long term (which is the actual goal of parenting) and has the potential for long term damage.

Becky, actually, there are studies that demonstrate spankings don't work, and that other methods are more effective for long term behaviour change.
