Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to positively address a situation without it blowing up all the time for a 10 year old boy who is in a phase of disrespect, defiance, talk back and just basically doesn't give a !!@##$ about how he speaks to people?
I know it's been escalating the past month or so and I've been addressing it everyday but whatever i say to him goes in one ear and out the other. It's very stressful that everything simple or complex is an argument. Something as little as picking out a shirt to wear turns into huge blow up. It's crazy. yesterday my sitter who I rely on tremendously, told me she is considering not helping me out anymore because of my son's disrespectful, argumentative behavior. I was shocked she said that to me. I had no idea he wasn't behaving for her. She never mentioned it until now. Being a single mother tha tworks full time, if she walks out on me, I am up the creek. She is going to continue until this Friday and let me know how he is behaving by then. I punished him from TV beginning last night and have been tortured for it every since. I am making him write an apology letter to her and I'm also making him read the dictionary and write definitions of all the words of his current behavior and then finding words and definitions of appropriate behavior instead and he will sit and write everyday until I see a change. Not sure it's going to work though. He really is such a sweet fun caring boy and I know it's a phase but I cannot have him disrespecting me and other adults as well.
