I have to agree with the two ladies but also note that a lot of judges these days do go for the joint custody venture. Its not a bad thing either. I am in one. Just note that its a he said/she said kinda thing so having proof and documentation is key. The law does not go on the say so of the mother or father. They go on facts and the best interest of the child or children.

Get yourself an attorney, and be prepared to either back up your statement of his fitness with actual documented proof, or share custody with the child's father.
He's got every right to request shared custody, just as you have every right to get support from him.

Talk to a lawyer. He has every right to file for joint custody, and he could very well get it. It is only your opinion that he is not fit to take care of the child. You actually need to be able to demonstrate that in court.
