I recently let my attourney go which i could not afford because 4 months went by and she hadnt even had a conversation with my ex's attourney yet I was able to just pick up the phone and able to call her. I cannot afford a lawyer and have 3 children that we adopted together. I have decided to move forward on my own (i know its not reccomened...but have no choice). I am in a divorce/custody and have been denied legal aid because its demanding right now. Any advise would sure be appreciated. He had nothing to do with my children and after I filed for divorce in Feb he had someone pay for his lawyer to fight for joint custody of my children. I am getting ready to go to mediation in a week and just need this to be over. He is illegal (that doesnt matter in the court) and is only doing this to hurt me.

Im going to continue to do the best I can to fight this....the childrens biological mother is paying for his lawyer. I currently have a retraining order against her for threatening to kill me and the children. She has offered to help take care of the children when he has them if he gets joint custody. Messed up situation.

Unless you have solid evidence that he is unfit (like arrest reports for drug abuse or violent behaviors)... he should get joint custody. That shouldn't be a fight. An opportunity at an equal relationship w/ both parents is almost always in the best interest of the children.

If you have solid evidence that he is a danger to the children... present that to the judge. Otherwise... prepare to work out a joint visitation schedule in your mediation next week.
