I am a new mom. I was the only child in my family so I got like no experience with babies. Maybe this is a silly question but I get confused when to feed her. My baby girl turned 5 months on the 5th. She seems less hungry, and has a longer period between feedings. I breastfeed only, maybe sometimes i give her rice cereal in between. I used to nurse her every 3 hours or less. Now she can go up to 4 1/2 about (maybe even up to 5 hours) If she is taking a nap that long... but i try not to wait longer than that if she doesn't start asking i feed her and she seems like she is not into nursing so much (eat maybe 5 minutes, like she is hungry then kind of suck slow chill, get distracted) so i feed her up to 10 min. Her tommy looks so full and she feel very heavy. So do babies around 5 months and older have their own schedule when they want to eat? Or should i really try to make her nurse if it has passed 3 to 4 hours even if she is not hungry? I don't want to overfeed her...

Just let her tell you. She should be having certain cries that let you know what's going on. Cries like; I'm hungry, I'm wet, I'm tired or even I'm bored. There's really no sense in trying to make her nurse when she's not interested. My ten month old bites when he doesn't want to nurse. She'll let you know. Also, since she's sleeping longer in between feedings, I wouldn't be surprised if she's due for a growth spurt. My little one, slept a lot before a growth spurt.

I used to feed her a tsp. of rice about 30 min to one hour after nursing to try to keep her from spitting up so much. So frustrating.... Now I just give her about 2 tsps. of rice cereal around 6 pm. and then around 8 or 9 I will nurse her... But sometimes I won't give her rice cereal at all.

She's probably filling up on the rice cereal that she's getting in between feeds, I would cut it out for the time being. I would probably wouldn't let her go more than 4 hours during the day without trying to breastfeed her, if she's not hungry she won't eat that's what is great about breastfeeding you can not over feed them. I would prepare though usually around 6 months they have a growth spurt so even though she's going long now it probably won't last.
