Yes they should really. Unless you have signed something giving them rights to administer emergency medication, or given them a full medical history.

Yes I wouldn't want anyone medicating my kids without my permission!

Yes unless you've given them permission before hand. They should certainly ring you just as a courtesy. Unless they're hands are tied they have a child with a bad fever or something and it's only option. And they know for sure what they're doing.

Yes, I would not want anyone giving my child anything that I haven't already approved. Not everything over the counter is safe. I would leave a list with any babysitter saying what is ok to give and the dosages, like tylenol, Ibuprofen, sunscreen, diaper cream, etc. and when its ok to give them If its not on the list, I wouldn't I wouldn't let the babysitter give it.

I would never give a child other than my own any type of medication without the parent's specific permission on the type, dose, and time to be given and I would flip out on anyone that thought it was ok to medicate my child without my permission.

My oldest even asks me for permission before taking ibuprofen for a headache because I told her I want to KNOW when you are or aren't having any medicine. The only exception is if it's in the middle of the night, but she always tells me first thing in the morning.
