You can, it won't hurt anything to do so if it makes you feel better. Kids often learn how to stand by pulling themselves up on the crib slats, so this way you will be prepared for that enevitable moment. There's nothing wrong with thinking ahead and being pro-active! Good luck!

My daughter started standing in her crib at 5 months, I lowered the mattress and she still does it, just now there's no chance of her flipping over the side. No harm in keeping your baby safe right!

Just make sure the bars are up; he shouldnt be able to climb out. I always make sure the bars are up when my son is in his cot. He's 16mo and I'll be switching him to a bed soon.

Make sure the crib has been lowered to the lowest setting and this should take the bars up to his shoulders should he manage to stand. If he is not standing alot there is little chance that he will be able to climb over the bars just yet. When he has managed to pull himself up on furniture then it is time to worry. My daughter is 2 and she has never attempted to get out of her cot/bed she just accepts it's her bed and that is it. Ideally when they do start to climb out of the cot you should either convert the cot to a bed or put them in a proper bed with a bed guard.
