Hi, do any of you all have pets? If so, what kinds? We have a fat lazy cat and a rottweiler. I know some people don't like them, but she is the coolest!

i have a cat, and 2 dogs. a Labrador, Roxy and a Bull Terrier, Buddy.
My son loves them so much. he just wants to play with the cat and touch and talk to the dogs. He is 7 months old and he is astounded by animals. i think children brought up with animals is wonderful and lets them experience the bonding they can have at an early age :)

Hi Savannah
We had a dog from the S.P.C.A he was a bull mastiff x with rottweiler male. We had him for 9 years before he passed away two years ago. We miss him deeply he was the best dog ever so gentle and friendly with kids. We will get another dog once my youngest is a bit older.

I bet that was a  wonderful dog!  What a good mix!

I have an old stray cat outside.. he's cool. But I'd like to have an indoor animal for my kid. He is absolutely fascinated by all things furry. Unfortunately my boyfriend hates pet hair and pet smell so Im searching for the appropriate dog. I'm leaning toward a westie, because I've read they dont smell much and they shed very little. But I always wanted a big dog. :( not a yippie dog.

Giant Schnauzers are big goofy friendly dogs that dont shed much either!  :)

We have a boxer who will soon be 3, and he is absolutely amazing with my children! I love rotweilers though too. Its all in the way you raise the dog. There are a lot of larger dogs that get stereotyped as being "mean" animals b/c a lot of people raise them that way. I had a friend who had two rots around his very small children... and I think they were bigger babies than the kids were...lol I know that our boxer definitely can be a big baby, and he acts like one of the kids, but don't even pretend to hurt one of my kids or if your a "stranger" approach them too quickly b/c he'll quickly intervene. For instance we've been spending quite a bit of time outside lately. I was cleaning the grill while my daughter was pretending to trim the bushes and my son was sitting on the sidewalk drawing w/ chalk when the new maitenance guy came around the corner rather quickly. Our boxer very quickly pinned my daughter against the bush (not hurting her...just made sure she was "secure" is the best way I can describe it) and hung his head over my son to protect them from the stranger! He didn't growl or bark at the guy, but definitely made it known that those were his kids and not to mess with them. I know that he would never in any way shape or form hurt my kids but will protect them in an instant.

I thought the same thing about lil dogs... but my long haired chihuahua shih tzu is one of the quietest dogs. She barks less than any big dog I know. She barks when someone comes to the door and when you're playing with her and even then she mostly has lil lawnmower like growling noises. It's actually pretty cute and she is VERY good with our son. She goes to check on him if he is making noises, she sits with him when he's on the floor and he's even grabbed her fluffy ears and she hasn't done anything but look at him as if to say "thats mine". She knows what toys are hers and which are his and she can't touch. I wouldn't count out the lil dogs for the "yippie" aspect, not all of em are :)

We have 2 cats - The Mist and Maggie. Mist is getting old and keeps to himself. Maggie is great with my son, she lets him pull her fur and tail (althought we're trying to teach him that this isn't nice). I would love to have a dog but I live in an apartment and believe that dogs need a backyard.

Sounds like a really awful mix...but look at labradoodles.  They tend to have the lab demeaner...sweet, kind, loyal...with the poodle no-shed fur!!!  Poodles really don't shed!!!

HI!!!! We have 3 boys still at home...each boy has a dog, each dog has a cat, each cat has a rabbit!!! Each animal is a rescue!! Golden Ret. from an abusive home (taken at 9 weeks...so not much trauma!), Rottie-cocker spaniel mix (yup...that's an odd mix!) who's mom was hit by a car when the litter was a couple weeks old, and a rottie-german shephard mix who's mom ate all but he and his sister at birth (my grown daughter has the sister). I also have a daycare in my home...so all of the animals MUST be gentle!!!! Couldn't dream of life without all my babies...furry and not so furry!!!

Ok, don't get me started. I have 3 dogs and a Rabbit. Lab mix with Pit, Poodle Mix, Cocker spaniel mix and a snow white bunny rabbit with Red eyes. Yes! red eyes. My poodle and cockerspaniel was adopted from the shelter and the Rabbit was found about 2 weeks ago in the street and my daughters convince me he/she needs a home. Pictures on facebook but I need to add the rabbit photo soon.

We own a French Bulldog. I have never met a dog that will take so much from a child. He is wonderful; lets our son pull on his ears, fur, all that. If he gets sick of it- he just gets up and walks away.

i'll be first to say i would never trus a pitt bull with my child. that being said i have a doberman cross, a breed most people look down on, but he is soooo gentle and tolerant of the kids and he was never exposed to them when he was young, couldn't ask for a better dog. we recently had to have our grate dane put down due to aggression being shown to the kids, a breed of dog that everyone loves and trusts.

My family specifically has 2 pets - my 2 year old Chihuahua Shih Tzu cross named Hollie and my boyfriends yucky smelly rodent Hamster named Niblet.

My boyfriends parents who live above us have a English Sheepdog named Memphis and my parents have 2 malimute huskies named Nasser and Cream (their mom Wicca who was a husky passed away recently) and they have 2 cats Demon and Scorce.

I can't wait until my son is old enough to get a lizard! I would love to get him a snake but my boyfriend says no no no no no no snakes, but he has agreed to a lizard! I'm thinking we'll be getting a couple bearded dragons and maybe a blue tongue - I had 8 beardies and a bluey when I lived in Australia and I miss them so so so much! That day can't come fast enough!

I have a 15 yr old Cocker Spaniel named Skylar and we recently lost our cat of 14 years, who is sadly missed by our family his name was Forest. Skylar is 15 going on 4 as she still plays with my 2 kids, however she is starting to show her old age with my youngest, she seems to bark more at her than her brother, especially when it comes to her food. She is very protective of it never use to be, only in the last couple of years. I will miss her when it's her time to leave us.

I have a 2 yr old black lab named Cleo. She's gorgeous but still pretty nuts - I guess what they say about labs staying puppies for years is right :-P I also had a cat but I sent him to live with my Nana before my daughter was born after finding him sleeping in her pram. Freaked me out because he's also got quite the attitude. When my daughter is a bit older I will bring him home though.

We have 5 cats and 2 kittens. The kittens are going to new homes soon though, the other 5 from that litter already have gone. lol.
We love animals. We had a bird for awhile too but after one of our cats literally scared it to death we've decided to not get another one. Poor thing. We had a dog too for awhile but she got much bigger than expected and jumped our fence. We looked for her for two months but she was never found. Just hope whoever found her is being good to her.
Our cats though are great. They are just like kids, they all have their own personalities but we have never had a problem with them and our kids. There's two of them that sleep in our oldest kids rooms. One sleeps in our room and the other two prefer to sleep in the living room. The males are so cute too, whenever my hubby works night shift they know and are the watch cats. LOL. They sleep in the doorways to our rooms and any little noise they are up to investigate. If their really worried then they climb into our beds.
Our son keeps asking for a lizard too. My hubby is all for it but I've told them both to wait until our son is older. =)

Hi, I have a Singapura cat and she is such a character, she's 3 years old and thinks she is the Queen of all Queens. And I have a Papillon 6 months old puppy which I'm having the hardest time house-training....but he's still adorable. I've known 2 Rottweilers and both were adorable big teddy bears.

I had a beautiful cat that unfortunately did not like my son. She became more and more stressed the older he got. When she decided to start peeing on his toys and crib I knew it was time to find her a new home. It was so sad having to part with her. I want to get another pet but am so afraid of how they'll adjust to an active 2 year old.

My cat hates my kiddos.  She is such a brat!  Luckily for us she is very lazy and sleeps a lot so I let her hang out in my bedroom and bathroom all day so that she doesn't have to be around them.  She gets to hang out with us after the kiddos go to bed and while they are napping so she is a very happy cat.  We had to find a home for that other cat we had, though, because after my second son he got so jealous that he peed in his crib.  With him in it!  I have never wanted to hurt an animal before but I wanted to that time!  (I didn't though)  The little booger knew he wasn't supposed to be around the baby, too.  IT was disappointing because he was so good with my older son.

I have two cats buddy and domino. Buddy avoids my daughter mostly but stays on the edge curious. Domino loves belly rubs and fetches, we say he is part dog! He allows my daughter to tackle him and give him kisses. I imagine they will be fast friends. Both cats were only curious when we brought my daughter home and both come get me when she cries. And I was sooo worried about how they would react!

I have two big dogs, a husky and a golden retriever mix. When the boys were growing up, we had a beagle/St. Bernard mix and a poodle. The beagle mix was very protective of the boys; always sitting next to where the boys were, she used to let us know when my boys get fussy or hungry. Now that my boys are 17 & 16, although they don't remember Leilani, they love our dogs, and vice versa. Both our dogs are very territorial and protective, specially the husky, who's now 2 yo. The other one will turn 1 this weekend.

Boxers are hyper like other puppies, but they train easy, and grow up to be wonderful dogs. They are very smart, and very loyal. Our boxer can jump about 6 feet high from laying position for a treat, she will also wink with one eye on command. I trust her 100% with all my children, but the best way I can discribe her to others, is even though shes 8 years old, she behaves very much like a 3 year old child. She will pout, she will get hyper when someone comes to visit her, and she will shot you a dirty look when she doesnt get what she wants, but that is why we love her like our 4th child.
