Taking your baby out for the first time seems to be a rite of passage into motherhood. You have packed the diaper bag for the apocalypse. You have made sure your baby has a full tummy and is now peacefully sleeping in the carseat. You cannot help but call your mother and say, “Guess what we are doing today? That’s right, we are shopping!” You take a picture to document this special event and upload it on Facebook for the world to see (Let’s be honest–you’ve likely taken at least a dozen photos to get the perfect shot.) When you are finally in the car, you battle with yourself over turning on the radio because it might wake the baby. Then, when you are in the store you anxiously await a stranger to gush over your baby. And when you are driving home, you give yourself a victory speech: “Congratulations, me! I did it!”
Now, fast forward two years.
Taking your newborn twins and a toddler out seems to be a rite of passage into survival motherhood.
