I bribe my 8 year old into doing her home work reading her books everything! She started reading her books to me! when she gets home its snack time then home work time. i would check her home work when done. My secrect was we stoped going out to eat. I told her if she improved her report card , over all reading level, and meet her AR goal We would go to what ever reastraunt she wanted. She picked subway. Im proud to say it worked very well. She got a star trophey for having highest AR score in her class, many other awards including most improved. So i say yes with support, your child wants you to at least talk about their school day, and look over homework (depending on age). Im reading Maleficent to my three children this summer, its fun they jump in and read to me to!
