My 2 year old has been extrememly healthy thus far, however; recently she got ill with a virus and I started to notice her urine (pee diapers) smelling like maple syrup. Naturally, I Googled it only to learn about Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD.) This is a frightening disease that is usually seen at birth and is generally caught with any state's "PKU" test where they screen your newborn for 30 different kinds of disease and complications. Yesterday, I took Bethany for her 2 year well visit and her new Doctor (we recently moved) was not at all concerned about the maple syrup smell she's had for 10 days now. MSUD does have an intermittent type and it's possible that she is just now having problems because of recently being ill, but it is something I've smelt here and there for one or two days at a time. This is my daughter's urine that smells like maple syrup/burnt sugar smell; it's not her diapers as she's peed on a blanket recently and it was the same. Does anyone else think that it was wrong of the Doctor to dismiss us without even discussing it further?

She/he should have tested her for it. I know you don't want her to have it, but it sounds like you as a mom have your head on straight and know in your gut something is wrong.
I wouldn't let it go.

KC--- It was a new Pediatric Doctor in our area. She claims to have treated some MSUD kids in the past, which I was thankful to hear... but then she wasn't at all concerned about my daughter just because she appears to be 100%? Don't get me wrong, I don't want my daughter to have this, but I do want to know WHY it's smelling this way if she doesn't have MSUD! Thanks for your support.

Yes, I do think it's wrong and I think you should take her to a pediatric ER. OR get a new doctor. I would not put up with that!
