Doctor told me yesterday that my son cannot digest lactos so he needs to be on soy based formula not even on Brest milk. I have read some articles regarding the hormonal problems by soy formulas, the AAP REPORT, and now I'm worried. Was wondering if I could Brest feed him with soy formula?

Of all formula soy based is the least nutritious. Many doctors are not well trained in infant feeding. That doctor is wrong, you definitely could breastfeed. So if you are able to switch to a lactose free diet and still breast that is ideal. Both of my friend's daughters are lactose intolerant and once she eliminated dairy from her diet (takes about a week to see a difference) her babies were/are very happy and healthy. There are many dairy products out there that are now made in a lactose free version. Some infants & children out grow this and can have regular dairy later in life. Unfortunately IF you need to supplement then you would need to use soy.

If he cannot digest lactose then why would you refuse to be lactose free and still give him the bm that is making him sick? all while feeding him also with soy formula? They make everything now lactose free and it is not that bad.

You can breastfeed him if you stay off lactose and there are lactose free options. I live in Australia and I am lactose intolerant meaning my children have it until 2 years old and I drink a lactose free cows milk (down the long life milk aisle) and my sons were given a lactose free formula.

If I was you I would immediately eat lactose/ dairy free and keep breastfeeding! Get second, third and fourth opinions and do tons of online research, anything to avoid formula (especially soy!)

Whenever I get stuck on my child I think if this was before the time of doctors, therapists, medicine, and all that crap what would I do?

How old is your son?

Thank you so much dear for replying. I'm not interested in giving him soy formula aswell but the doc said IMMIDIATELY STOP so I got scared. I want him to have everything normal what if im giving him soy formula and breast feed him at the same time and im not taking stuff which is lactose free? Would it still be ok? Or I should wait for the blood test results. Thank you once again.

You can breast feed a lactose intolerant child, you yourself just also need to eat lactose free! My son is lactose intolerant, and is allergic to all dairy, and I still breast feed him (he's 1).

Soy based formula is not great, no soy product is very good. I would do more research if I was you, also seek a second opinion. Doctors don't always know best!
