depending on age, you can make paper mache (spell?) piggy banks. Take a blown up balloon, and an empty egg carton (for nose and legs), find a recipe online for a paper mache glue, and have some scrap news paper around. Tape all the pieces together and paper mache it (make sure to leave a whole in the bottom and a slit in the top for the money). When it dries you can paint it how ever you want to! It's loads of fun. You can also make sock puppets out of old warn out socks with buttons and scrap fabric for hair and such!

Go out and find some nice, smooth rocks. Wash them off, let them dry, and then color them with crayons. Make sure you pile on the color really thick! Then put your rocks out in the sun for a few hours. This will melt the wax onto the rocks and looks REALLY cool. Another neat way to do this is to take old crayons that you'd be throwing away anyway and chop them up really fine. Sprinkle the shavings and chunks onto the rocks in neat patterns and set them in the sun. Instant tie-dyed rocks! :)
It's a hit with most kids under 10. ;)
