My family and I are going Paleo. I want to donate our "bad" food to the food bank but my husband is dragging his feet. I would just like some feed back.

Thanks

I'm curious how your trial went. I read Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories a couple years ago. While I was shocked by his findings, I couldn't find the will power to follow them for more than a week or two at any given time. It didn't help that my DH wouldn't touch the book with a 10' pole and thought I was crazy for believing what Taubes discovered. I just picked up Robb Wolf's book after joining Crossfit almost 3 months ago. While I haven't finished his book, I've been lowish carb/no dairy/no gluten since Dec 2 and full Paleo for the last week. I haven't felt better! Since our DS is showing a mild dairy/gluten allergy, my husband is mildly supportive of DS's (and therefore my) gluten/dairy free eating.

Did your family last long? Did it take a lot to convince the kids? Are some of you still on the Paleo diet? What was your biggest hurdle?

I have MS and I am always looking at diff ways to eat. Also I don't sleep well. It seems pretty good to me.

What kind of food to do you consider bad... junk food or just things you aren't supposed to eat on a paleo diet? Maybe keep it for a treat if he isn't that into the paleo thing.

I agree with the paleo diet it has a fair few benefits. Not that I have enough willpower to give up soft drink and alcohol.

Kaitlin,

I have been reading differant books about the Paleo diet. I would just like your opinion on why you disagree with it.

First of all, my opinion is going to be biased, because after a great deal of research, we disagree with the Paleo diet on many many levels. Just so you know.

What is your husband dragging his feet for, donating or actually living this lifestyle? I don't see why he would drag his feet to donate unless he was not wanting to give up the food. Would he rather trash it? Weird.

What types of food are you considering donating? Most definitely any canned food is greatly appreciated, and boxed pastas or grains (especially the ones that don't go bad as quickly). No matter what you end up donating, which I think you should if you are choosing this, call your local food bank up- some have specific needs and others take certain products but not others. The food is not 'bad' and will feed many! Go for it!
