Does anyone else celebrate something other than Xmas at this time of year?

We do not celebrate Xmas in our household because we do not believe in spreading the illusion of Santa and we do not believe in Jesus. However we will be celebrating present day when our son is old enough to understand and enjoy it. We do believe in spreading good will to all though but believe that you can do that any and every day not just one day a year. And we do not need a reason to spend time with family, have lights and presents and share food together we are lucky enough to be able to do that throughout the year. I do think it is sad that a lot of families stress out and fight over money, beating the traffic and shopping rush and having to spend time with people they don't want to all in the name of Xmas. Some people have even been known to kill themselves because of the stress. Domestic violence also goes up at this time as does other crime. Is it really worth it?

Christmas is said to be Christ Jesus' birthday, but the Bible makes no mention to his birth date, only his death date, which is important, because he died for us. Christmas is also a day, originally celebrated by Pagans and was called the winter solstice.

Other than biblical reasoning, I refuse to participate in the stress related to his day. I refuse to go broke into the new year, while large corporations continue to get richer. There are so many people struggling, including many people on this site, wondering how to make this day great for their kids. What's suppose to be a joyous day is really a stressful day, and leaves many people unhappy.

I do things all throughout the year with and for my children, and I put emphasis on how gifts are earned through being respectful and exhibiting good behavior toward self and others is what yields gifts, not a day, once a year, created by man and under false pretenses.
