Does anyone have any tips or information about kids with night terrors?

My son Alex is 7 years old and has frequent night "terrors". He wakes up usually during the first hour of sleep crying or whining. He is sleeping and does not react to anything or anyone. Sometimes he gets up and goes to the bathroom to brush his teeth (which he had done already). He sometimes drinks a glass of water two, but all of these actions are accompanied by whining or crying. Any feedback is welcome. Thank you :)

oh my! I have an almost 7yr who does very similar things! I have found that when she has a lamp on or a light on in her room she doesnt do this.. also i found that moving her bed too helped. I dont know why but she was sleep walking alot and spoke to my doctor and she suggested moving her bed and i did and it stopped it mostly.. some nights she still walks.. but not every night like she used to. I also found when she gets hot she gets "the terrors".. not sure any of this will help you but this is what worked for us! :)

Has he told you what they are about? Maybe that would help you to be able to help him.

Does he have bedside lamp that he could have on throughout the night or a toy.

If its night terrors then the good thing is that he won't remember a thing and its more scary to you than him. If he's awake or waking from a dream that's different than night terrors. Usually these things go through phases and they outgrow them, is there any significant changes or conflict in his life over the past little while? How's school going for him? Again if its night terrors then there's probably not a lot you can do other than make sure he's safe and see if he grows out of it in a few months.

He has a night-light, so I'm not sure that's it. It only seems to happen when he doesn't want to go to bed. thank you all for your help.
