Does anyone have any tips/pointers on getting their toddler to start talking more and putting sentences together??

I trained as a speech therapist for the under fives and the easiest way is to sing nursery rhymes and silly songs. Try the rhymes that have actions to them like Row row the boat, Humpty dumpty, Ring a ring a roses. When you play smile and laugh to encourage your child that this is fun. The more fun you can make it the easier and quicker they will pick up language.

Talk to your child all the time. Name everything you pick up and ask them to repeat the word, then praise when they do.
