Does anyone have children with bunions?

I just noticed today that my daughter has what I think is a bunion on her right foot. Should I have her checked out by a doctor? She says it doesn't bother her, but I am wondering if it will cause her problems down the road. Is there anything that can be done to stop it from growing larger? I don't want her to have foot problems; I'm wondering if this will cause her problems, or not. She's not due for her check-up for several more months and I'm wondering if I should make an appointment soon or just wait it out.

I had bunions growing up but they wouldn't do anything till the bones in my feet had fused together and my foot was done growing. I had my first surgery at 17, and had my other foot operated on about 11 years later. The problem is that most people don't develop them till later but when you have them so young you may end up having to have the surgery again down the road, which I'll end up doing at some point.

Be sure you are buying shoes that fit properly and it may not hurt to go to a shoe specialist who can analyze how she walks to get her the most supportive shoes. You could also see a foot doctor and they can make custom inserts for her shoes to help. Otherwise you will be safe to just wait till her next appointment.
