Does anyone have the Implanon?? Help!!

I currently have Mirena, and let me tell you, it has been nothing but hell! I bleed all the time, not to mention the odd smelling discharge, I had problems w/ the wire being to long and got them cut shorter, but it's just been such a hassle I can't believe it. Most women are suppose to have little to no period at all, and it's just the opposite for me! Plus I'm moody lol. So I heard about the Implanon, it's inserted under the arm? And release hormones like the Mirena or different? Does a egg get fertilized like the pill or not like the Mirena? If anyone can answer these questions that would be great, or if anyone has it what their experiences were like, thanks a bunch!

I was on all sorts of BC before I got married and after. EVERYTHING that had "hormones" in it messed with me BAD. High blood pressure, racing heart, moody, etc etc etc. So guess what? NO MORE FOR ME. Keep in mind I was on this shit off and on for 13 yrs.

I have had the Implanon for about 9 months. I have a problem with very unpredictable periods. I may go for 2 months without a period or I may get my period for a week, have it go away for a day or 2, and then get it again. Other that that I have had no real problems. I have gained about 5 pounds. No problems with mood swings or depression.Hope this helps.

I have the Implanon and the only problem I have is weight gain. I spot maybe once every two months.. and its just a dot on a panty liner...I have no complaints against the Implanon besides the weight gain.

Ok I dont know an awful lot about it, but I have recently done some reading because I am trying to figure out what contraception is best for me.

Mirena is a different hormone to implanon and also different to the hormones in the pill. I believe it works like the Mirena and the two are supposed to have a similar effect on the body.

I hope someone else can shed some more light.

I had Implanon for 3 years. I had constant spotting, but everyone else I know has not had the same problem. Be careful if you have ever suffered from any sort of depression, anxiety or low moods, it can make you feel worse. Everyone I know who has had it, has not had any of the same issues I did.

My understanding of Implanon is that it creates a mucus plug over the cervix to prevent sperm entering and also stops ovulation. Apparently the hormone used is progesterone and it is meant to be similar to the depo provera 3 monthly injection. I had the injection for 2.5 years and i was advised to have a break from it, as long term use can cause osteoporossis (spelling??), implanon did not have this side effect. It also was better for fertility once you removed the implanon over the depo provera injection, cause the hormone was out of your system within 24 hours, unlike depo provera, where some people took up to 18 months to fall pregnant afterward.
