I suffer from a horrible pain during ovulation called Middlesmertz. It was so bad this month that I was out of commission for a week. I double over in pain like I've been shot. Does anyone else have this problem and do you have any ideas on how to lessen the pain?

I too have it, but my Middlesmertz symptoms are not as bad as yours. I was put on BCPs when I was 15-16 years old to control it. They helped a lot.

yes i do! I have dealt with the pain since highschool. and I am now 26. It got worse after having my child 4 years ago. Its not fun! It hurts worse than contractions at times. and it even hurts when i urinate or make a bowel movement. So I hesitate when I have to go cuz I don't want it to hurt. I have taken Ibuprofen and even toradol. but they don't work as well. It really sucks!!!

Yes! It sucks. I've found Midol helps some, and Icy Hot patches. Otherwise I suffer through. My mother used to complain of it when I was young and I thought she was insane, as it's ONLY a little egg...joke was on me! It got worse after each child I had and now it's nearly crippling for a few days at a time.

I have this condition. I know this post is over two years old, but I am suffering from extreme pain right now from Middlesmertz. It started a few days ago and I have to take strong pain killers when it happens. I also have a cyst on my left ovary and they found out that, that ovary is stuck to my uterus. I defienetly can empathize with you and I would suggest you look into going on birth control pills, if you havent done so already. It might help. Good luck.

Yes!!!! I too would like to get pregnant again, so I am kinda glad I have it cause I know when I'm ovulating without buying the predictor kits;) Although I have used them to make certain.

Mine usually lasts 12-18 hours and I take Tylenol. If you are trying to conceive you don't want to take ibuprofen or naproxsyn because it can interfere with getting pregnant.

I was told i have that, i didn't know the name. The lady doing my scan just said the pain i am feeling is from ovulation.I was being scanned because my gp told me my uterus was bulky, it was grand.I had full pelvis scan and all was fine.
I was left worrying for mths.lol
This pain is awful at times.I just take pain relief and thats unlike me as i don't like to take any drugs for pain etc.I got a pain one night i spent hours lying in the same position afraid to move as i did not want to experience that pain again:-( some mths its okay others its hell.Drug up is all i can say or the heat works for some(hot water bottle or heat patch..For me it makes the pain worse.

I can't make it out of bed without Aleve....Naproxin Sodium....I have to take two...and the bottle says only take one. Then I rip out my trusty heating pad...curl up really little and start watching the clock. After about 45 mins I can STAND to stand upright. within two or three hours it's bearable...and I can go about my day. I always watch the clock and dose back up BEFOOOORE the pain can creep up on me again.

if i catch it before the spasms begin, Advil is my hero, it takes away the pain, i sometimes have to float my middle section in a hot bath to relieve pressure. so so very painful, and then in a couple of hours the whole thing is over. i have been told is cyst that rupture and bleed and the blood goes into the stomach, and that is what the pain is. i was just this Saturday was in er r ovulation pain, first time, but i was crying in pain. before next month comes i am working on getting them out of there. do not want to go through that again. i have had this for 27 years. i am 48
its time to clear out all that stuff. hope this helped

I could only wish. I just turned 30, we already have 5 kids and one has major genetic health problems (our youngest) so we don't want to risk more now that we know about them. No birth control has ever worked for us, including the pill, depo shot, condoms, vasectomy... Needless to say, my husband isn't getting much action lately.

I'm 42 now & don't have it too often anymore, not many eggs left I guess. Thank God! One thing good about getting old.

Thank you Amy! It is so nice to hear that I am not alone. I will for sure give the dicey hot patches a try next month, unless we end up pregnant. Fingers crossed! :)

BCPs are not an option at this time because we are trying to get pregnant. Talk about taking one for the team. Being in all this pain and having to have sex, is not the most fun thing in the world.

Yes, it is as bad as period pain but on the side of the body, try feminax.
Ask your doctor to check you for PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

never got it that bad but yes I do tend to feel when I'm ovulating.. sort of feels like mild cramps to me... but I've also been told it can get either better or worse as we get older.... varies from person to person. Some don't feel it at all.
