Does chicken pox require doctor?

My 3 year old stepson seems to have chicken pox. I've researched and started using things to relieve his itching, but I'm wondering if I need to take him to the doctor to be checked out? I know there may not be much they can do for him, but I don't want it to be something other than chicken pox and end up being dangerous! I'm leaning toward taking him in the morning. Opinions?

Not necessarily, but it depends on the symptoms he is experiencing. And it depends on how certain you are it is chicken pox. My son had chicken pox, I knew it was chicken pox because it was going around the daycare centre (and they called me when he broke out in the spots). But he never had a fever, never appeared distressed, didn't really itch a lot and I never bothered taking him to a doctor. However, symptoms vary, and it CAN become life threatening. Itchiness can also cause scratching and lead to infection. So you need to keep a close eye on it. If at any point he seems to be distressed, definitely get him to a doctor.
