My 3 year old son has exhibited autism symptoms from the age of 1 year old. He is a fraternal twin & was born 6 weeks premature. When he was just two months old he was diagnosed with a breathing condition, which he eventually grew out of, bronchiolitis. Growing up he was always the last one to do something between him and his fraternal twin sister. He didn't start crawling until he was about 9-10 months old & did start walking fairly quickly right after.
Throughout the time he was 1 year old he never reacted when someone said his name, was constantly banging his head against the wall at night while he was sleeping (HARD), and always seemed to be off balance - always walking into things.
He is now 3 years old and still bangs his head against the wall at night - kind of like he's rocking himself to sleep - but he does it so hard I'm surprised he hasn't given himself a concussion. He can not speak in full sentences, like his twin sister, he can only say a few select words. He cries constantly, especially when he has difficultly expressing the way he's feeling.
His pediatrician says she doesn't think he has autism but just a developmental delay. I need some advice here, because I'm thinking that it's more than a developmental delay & if he does have signs/symptoms of autism I want to get things taken care of right away.
