Downs Syndrome Independant living

Hi all

I realise a lot of you on this site may be new mums so forgive me if I've joined the wrong group . I am a mother of Emily who is 25 and has Downs syndrome , she is very independent and loves life , Currently she lives at home but at some point wants to live independently. I'm keen to establish something which isn't social service led as ive seen lots of examples where this hasn't worked and their child/young adult has returned home unhappy and disillusioned. Has anyone out there any experience of doing something similar . Any advice gratefully received Judy

Judy, I'm not sure where to tell you to start. I know that where I live, there is a wonderful residential program for folks with developmental disabilities, and it is everything from a full "home" (fully assisted living) to independant living situations around town, either in apartments or shared homes.

In our area it is called Ark Regional Services:
However, across the US, I believe it is "The Arc"

Good luck!
