This is a touchy subject... I am bipolar and my mother is as well. She is a heavy drug and alcohol abuser. I have been trying since I was 9 years old to get her to get help. I have come to the conclusion that honestly, you can't help anyone who will not help themselves and you are only hurting yourself by trying too hard and them not accepting it. All you can do is let him know you are there for him and that when he is ready to get help you will help him find it where ever he needs to find it. I am not trying to sound mean or anything I am just worried about your well being because I know how hard it is to want to help someone who wont accept it.

Boundaries is the key here for your own survival. If he is not in treatment taking prescribed meds to cope he will use street drugs or alcohol to self medicate. I know it is tough and very hard to see someone you love struggle with this get some support for yourself either a life group or church group. Don't do this alone it is an easy trap to fall into and you do not want to give up who you are for this person. Yes, I am speaking from experience ;-)
