I am not sure how this site works. I am new to it.
I have a 25 year old son. He is addicted to heroin and living at home. He has been in trouble since he was in middle school, and I attribute it all to drugs. He is also diagnosed with ADHD. We have tried everything from a school that deals with these kind of problems, to counselors, to doctors, to hospitals, to rehab. We tried tough love and threw him out of the house twice. Nothing has worked. He has a daughter who will be four next month. His girlfriend kicked him out because of drugs, and he didn't see his daughter for two years. Now he is back in her life, and she in ours. He has stopped going to rehab due to the co-pays. He can't
afford it. When he is high, he is up all night talking like he is paranoid scitosphrenic (sp.). My husband and I are retired. We are 60 and 61. We need to get him into rehab, but don't know what to do since he is a consenting adult.
We realize that this is a brain disorder now. He blames us for his inadequacies. He always wants me to hug him and tell him that I am proud of him when he is high. I can't. I don't even want to be around him.
When he is sober, he is a lovely person. He has a brilliant mind and is a fantastic artist. He was a part of Mass Art when he was a Jr. in high school. That is a very difficult program to get into.
We fear he will either kill himself by over dosing or get arrested and go to jail. HELP!!!!!!
