London turned 3 this past Month (Oct. 2015) and I would like to prepare her for school, including socializing her. I do not have the budget for a day care or any kind of pre-school program. I am a former elementary school teacher, however I taught the upper grades and therefore am not as knowledgeable as I would like to be regarding a three year old and what she needs to know to be totally prepared.
Please help, all comments are most welcomed.
Thanks
Ruth

You can also give your 3 year old the advantage of knowing shapes, colors, letters and numbers by working in those things in the daily routine. Talk about the shapes and colors of things. Talk about how things start with certain letters. Read to your child a lot and even begin to point out words to them. My granddaughter is three and she is getting to the point she can spell her name and read some. Count things together.

I am trying to work on that. I am going to explore programs at the local library, and she does have a few play dates. Do you have any suggestions where else I may socialize her? Every little bit helps.

Thanks, you will be pleased to know that tomorrow we will be making a turkey using the tracings of London's foot for the turkey body and her hands for the turkey feathers. We also have a poem that will go with it. Nana will be thrilled when she gets this lovely gift on Thanksgiving day. (The feathers will be different colors). I can't wait.

At 3 yrs. the main focus is socialization. Join some play groups with kids her age. At 4 yrs. old then the focus is learning the ABC'S and their sounds, counting, making patterns, knowing shapes and colors, and problem solving. All these can be done through play and thar is how preschoolers learn is through their play.
