i was told that houses built after 2004 don't need to have the baby protections on the electrical outlets: the outlets are already designed with something inside that protects people from getting hurt. is this true? has anybody ever heard this?

I have never heard of this. I have outlet covers at my house. Better to be safe than sorry. Luckily my son, now 2.5 years old, has never had an interest in outlets.

Hmmm I haven't actually heard of this. That's interesting though. My 18 month old son knows how to remove the outlet covers now, so I don't know what to do lol.

No I haven't found any info on the web about this and are you sure they are not talking about the GFI outlets??/they are the ones that go into bathrooms and kitchens. They actually throw the breaker when the appliance hits water or something is wrong with the outlet.they are to protect against water,My husband is an Electrician and he put all of our outlets in our house. Now there are the extension plug ins that work for multi outlets that actually have little turn lids on them.I have one in my sons room for his tv and other electrics. He can't plug anything into it because of the lid that covers where the prongs would connect to the outlet.Hope this helps and I will ask my husband if he has heard of anything like what you are talking about.
