My daughter is now almost 2 years old. We used the stroller at the zoo last year but I'm wondering if she'll spend more time wanting out of the stroller to see things better and if we'll just end up pushing it around empty. Any suggestions? When did you kick the stroller to the curb?

Belly is not 3 Amy! Cannot believe your daughter is already 2. Wholly crap!!!

I would still bring it in case she gets tired. I still do for big days like that. If not to push her around in the beginning, at least for all the stuff we bring. She has always hated being strapped in a stroller, but when she gets tired, she gets right in.

By two - but to be honest, I never used it all that much to begin with. I was always a minimalist kind of mom to begin with, and a big baby-wearer. I was addicted to my Ergo carrier, and it was just soooo much easier. I could wear her, and still carry a moderately sized bag for any essentials (sippy cup, snacks, wipes, etc.) The Ergo folded up nicely in that bag, so I had a back-up in case she got tired on longer outings. My daughter was potty-trained by two, and pretty reliable, so I didn't need all of the crap that diapers entail. I think that right around the time she was 2, my husband took her to the zoo by himself, and did take the stroller. He came home bitching because he did spend the bulk of the day pushing an empty stroller, which made it harder for him to keep her contained and with him. That was the last outing made with that stroller. I consigned it shortly thereafter.

LOL @ Kelly's "some of them are really cool" remark...

They're all WAY cooler than they were 18 years ago, ladies! Amy, no matter what, just make sure you enjoy your time!

I only have the one we purchased for our first baby 6 years ago. They probably do have way neater ones now, but past the point to buy one again. This is my last baby, but she's so on the go I'm worried we'll take it and be chasing her. She's started using the potty too so it's not that much to bring along. Maybe we'll take it for the first trip to the zoo this summer and if it seems too much we'll just leave it home the next time.

We kept ours for quite a while, actually. I think I was on the verge of being one of "those" moms who used the stroller for way too long. J was (and still is) very tiny though, so I never got the nasty looks because he fit into the stroller with room to spare until he was almost 5.

When J first learned to walk until he was a little over 2 years old, we didn't use the stroller--he hated it, wasn't worth the battle--but I kept it in our garage, more because I didn't know what to do with it than anything else. Then around 2 1/2 we started using it again. We found it very useful at outdoor markets, festivals, etc. where we spend hours walking and crowds are thick. When J wasn't in it, it served as the "catch all" for packages, bags, etc. It was just convenient not to have to carry 6 bags and still hang onto a toddler's hand. It also came in handy at airports when we often had to rush from one gate to another with no time to spare. There was no way to carry our carry-ons, and a child, so without the stroller, we'd end up scooting along at toddler pace, lugging bulky bags, and miss our connecting flights.

We didn't use the stroller "day to day", but it was essential those times we did use it--I'd say at least once a month, sometimes twice--but he was 4 years old when I finally got the courage to take a flight with 3 connecting flights to Italy for a week long music and art festival....and we survived. So the stroller went away.

That was 4 years ago, and sometimes I get sad that our stroller years are over, just because it was SO convenient....and I know I'll never have another baby to put in a stroller, and Hello! Have you seen the strollers they have today?? Some of them are really cool!

LOL...when it stopped being useful to be the "catchall" for the extra coats, bags, souvenirs, etc...

Translate that to...between 2 & 3...LOL
