Epidural or Not?

Hi I am pregnant with my first child and I have heard mixed reviews on getting an epidural. What do you Moms think? I want to have control over labour, still be able to have my body tell me what to do and not be too drowsy, but I don't want to be in excruciating pain either...

Honey, unless you know exactly what you labour is going to be like (which you don't) you will not have control over it. You can't dictate to your body what it will be like and how it shall act, and you can't KNOW what will happen at the time. There is no such thing as a perfect plan.

What you CAN do is have control over the decisions you make - that's a totally different thing. But even then, you can't make a decision NOW that will be 100% the plan on the day.

I am one of those people who just went with the flow and let my body do what it was created to do. I ended up with no epidural and no drugs. But you might end up having to have a c-section to save the baby's life! You might also find the epidural doesn't work.

Also, keep in mind, epidurals and various drugs, etc, work differently on everyone.
