New to the group and hoping to connect with parents in the same boat as my family. My little one was diagnosed with Epilepsy at 5 months due to Cortical Dysplasia. His lesion is located on his right frontal lobe and causes localized partial focal seizures. Due to the seizures he has had some delays, but with PT, Speech and the grace of God he is catching up quite nicely. We tried a few meds and finally after a round of Prednisone and Zonisimide we were able to get things under control (Thank God). He is now almost 2 and began experiencing seizures again. We increased the dose and it seems to be working. Our physician has discussed surgery as an option to eliminate the seizures a few times, but it is such a scary decision. I think about his condition and how his life will be long-term and wish there was an easy answer or guarantee, but of course, nothing is guaranteed. There are long-term effects with medicine and no guarantee surgery will completely resolve his seizures. At this point, everything I read shows a more favorable outcome with surgery and I would really like to connect with parents who are or have gone through this. I would really like someone to relate to as I go through this process with my family. I appreciate any feedback!
