I feel horrible and just need to get this off my chest. Yesterday I was cooking dinner for my 2 year old and she was watching tv, It was only 2 minutes but I realized it was quiet -too quiet- and I ran into the living room and she wasn't there and the back door was open and she climbed over her gate and I saw the gate in the back yard was open and she was gone. I was in a panic and seen her toys in the back alley and she was at the neighbors house! I feel like a horrible mother! Thank god she is okay. This ever happen to anyone before? I can't shake this horrible feeling.

Oh, that's scary! It hasn't happened to me (knock on wood) but my friends lost their little girl in a corn field last year. It was over half an hour before they found her. She was 3. These things happen, it doesn't mean you're a bad mom. Now you know she can open the gate, so you can take steps to prevent it from happening again. Fortunately, neighbours are usually really helpful in these situations. (I think it was a neighbour who found the little girl, too.)

Another story: My cousin got out of the house when she was 2 and supposed to be napping. The first my aunt heard noticed was when a trucker knocked on her door carrying a toddler under his arm, saying, "She was wandering along the road. Does she belong here?" Talk about your heart stopping. Like I say, it happens, and often that's your first warning to make everything more secure.
