Every nap a screaming battle for 7 month old

My 7 month old baby is a very active fellow. There is no winding down for him. It’s all or nothing. Hyper or asleep. This makes getting him to nap a nightmare. Soothing music, baths, singing, rocking nothing calms him down. Every time we try and rock him to bed, he flips and flips and flips around and around in circles or tries to jump off my lap. It’s come down to he has to be held down so he cannot flip over or escape to go to bed. He screams and writhes and struggles every single time. Once in a blue moon he will fall asleep while eating his bottle if we are lucky. It seems cruel to have to hold him down (obviously we don’t do it enough to hurt him but it has to be firm enough so he cannot wiggle free) but nothing else works. We don’t miss signs, as soon as he yawns or rubs his eyes we begin to try and get him to sleep. I’m so frustrated and guilt ridden, I hate to have to do this but he NEEDS sleep! It’s not like we do this when he’s not tired, and if we just let it go he gets so overtired he’s screaming and miserable anyway. CIO doesn’t work for naps, because he will just pull up on his crib and scream until he falls backwards and bumps his head! What do we do!? I feel like crying from frustration and failure!

That's how my nephew was as a baby. He was swaddled til he was a year old because if he could flail... he wouldn't settle. Pinning him in my arms worked too. He would fight and scream for about 2 minutes, but then he would be still and fall asleep almost instantly. I don't remember how he 'outgrew' it, but he's 8 years old now... so he DID outgrow it. ;)
