I am a step mom of a sweet 14 yr old and 16 yr boy. Tonight I experienced the sad feeling of, I wasn't there and can't relate:(. I ordered pizza after getting home from work, the 14yr old shows me her tiny snake that she found and decided to make a home for it. I personally don't like snakes but it was really small. 16 yr old is holding it as we were trying to figure out the species... I said, well your dad should know...thats when he shared with me, "the story" "yes my dad had a snake and did you know he even got bite by his pet snake one time... As he continues I listen, we don't share often so of course I'm interested. He continues..."yes, my mom was pregnant with me and my dad found the snake in the closet, got bite, and they had to go to hospital." After I took a shower and came back downstairs, their dad/my fiancé and the kids were talking about times I couldn't relate to:(. The sweet 14 yr old changed the subject and asked me to share a time when I was in summer camp that I had previously shared with her.
I feel for step moms like me that did not share the memories of the prior family. As for now, I don't have kids with my fiancé which I have read will bring the blended family closer. I am 31 yr old and I say if it's in Gods plan for me to have a child then I will. I just have to ignore, get over, more on when these little things happen... Easy to say then do.
My fiancé and his ex wife were married for 17 years. I am confident in my relationship but it still hurts from time to time. I will continue and try not to let it bother me;)
