my son is 17 months old, his biological father has been out of the picture for a year (restraining order because of demestic violence against my son and me) and now the restraining order has expired. i am scared to death i dont know what to do, his father turned into a drunk/drug addict. and chose those things over our son. after violating the restraining order 4 times he moved 1000 miles away but now is telling my family he is coming back to my town. im afraid that if he gets visitation he will hurt my son or kidnap him. what can i do to protect my son?

My suggestion is to find the money to file the paperwork in the court because right now regardless if your son is with you technically his father still has a right to see him. Most attorneys do a free consult and would be able to give better advice. As far as the paperwork the court clerk may be able to help you with whatever you need.

Has custody already been established through the courts? If not you should file ASAP. If he does get visitation you can ask for supervised visitation and most likely will be granted because it sounds like you will have established proof that he is a danger.
