If he's not on the birth certificate and doesn't have proof of paternity he doesn't currently have rights. All he has to do to GET rights is take you to court though. What rights he does or does not get would depend on the judge. 8 years is a LONG time, but if he has proof that you are the one that has kept him away (whether or not it's true) then it won't look too good on you.
