Schedules only work for some babies, Victoria. Schedules can be a good thing if the baby does well w/ it. Schedules can be a disaster for other babies.

I've read putting them on a schedule is very good, feeding at certain times every three hours until they do it by themselves naturally, then you can at least time it at good times

Yep. All different. I have two that were only waking once in a 12 hour night by 3 months and one that didn't stop nursing in the night til he was 2 years old. ;)

Yep all are different :) My first was doing a 5 hour stretch at night at 4 months old. My middle one.....even though she put me through hell for 2 months with eating every 1 hr. she started to give me a 5 hour stretch around 3 months. My youngest did not do a 5 hour stretch until she was about 6 months old. Each baby is different depending on their needs and their growth. There are some that almost come home from the hospital sleeping most of the night then there are others that are over 1 year before they start to sleep longer at night. Just depends on how their bodies grow and what they need at a certain time. The nice thing is is that it does not last forever. Eventually you do get some of your sleep back. Then you loose it again when they become teens ;)

Babies need to eat that frequently. They have small little bellies, and over feeding can cause issues like vomitting. Over feeding is never good, but feeding on demand makes baby TELL you when he/she is hungry which is a good thing. It is not about convenience, it is about babies needs.

My older ones would eat every 3 hours. My youngest would sometimes go 2-3 hours w/out nursing, but also sometimes nurse 3 times in the SAME hour. He didn't go longer than 4 hours w/out nursing til he was a year and a half... and, of course, he was eating meals as well by then too.

Every 3 hours is perfectly normal. They are supposed to eat often.

Every 3 hours is normal. Count yourself luck as it could be less. My middle one ate every 1 hour around the clock. Babies tummies are small you are only going to get so much food in them before they spit it up. That is why they eat so often. They need the calories and the nutrition of their milk, but can only fit so much in their tummies. Even as babies get older they tend to stay with a every 3 hour eating schedule. .....eating breakfast then a mid morning snack, lunch and a mid afternoon snack, dinner and some will do an evening snack before bed. If you calculate that out they are still eating about every 3 hours.
