I've been giving my son who's 3 months and a half some fruit purée to taste every day . Just a couple of spoons! Is it too young or is it ok? My pediatrocian said its a personal choice wether mums begin purée early or not! 4 month is just the recommended age! I'm a little confused, and wondering will it harm my baby

LOL No one is attacking you. If you are so confident in your decision you wouldn't have bothered to ask anyone this question.

I started my first too early because I didn't know any better. I learned that there IS a risk... and even though my first is still totally fine I would feel horrible if I did not inform others that there is a risk. If you don't care that you could potentially be setting your child up for a lifetime of digestive issues (as Jodi has mentioned)... go ahead and do whatever the heck you want. Most parents don't WANT to risk causing their children harm though...

There... now you have been 'attacked'... in a very mild form... for the first time on this post.

You are the mum, he's your baby and you know him and his needs best. Trust your instincts. There are loads of books and papers on the right age to start babies on solids and they all have one thing in common - not a single one has been written by or read by a baby!

Seriously - my son started on baby rice with breast milk at 5 weeks and fruit puree before he was 3 months old because I couldn't seem to fill him up. When I was a kid, and my brothers, it was not unusual for my grandmother, who looked after us while my mum worked, to peel back the skin on a soft fruit like a peach and just let us suck on that, particularly when we were out shopping, etc. as there were not the convenience baby foods in the 1960s there are now. And that was from a matter of 6 weeks old. So please stop fretting. If you are okay, your baby is thriving and his bowels are not really runny or anything like that, then it's all good. Trust yourself and your instincts. :D

So why are you asking if it will harm your baby if you are just going dismiss the advice anyway? Two people so far have told you that 3 months is way too young. You have been told that the American Academy of Pedicatrics AND the World Health Organisation do not recommend it until around 6 months BASED ON ACTUAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH.

Do what you want, its your kid. But don't post asking for advice if that's clearly not actually what you are after. Just post that you want someone to tell you that you are totally doing the right thing instead. Because that's really what you want, validation. I'm not here to give that to you. I've read some of the research. I wouldn't risk it. But you go ahead if you are so informed.

Actually, 6 months is the recommended age, recommended by the AAP and the WHO, a recommendation based on up to date research. 3 months is WAY too young and can potentially cause issues in the long term. Your child should be receiving all of his nutrition through either breastmilk or formula at this age.

Basically, the risk factors for digestive problems (in particular irritable bowel syndrome, but others as well), obesity, and some other issues are extremely heightened by feeding an infant solids too early. There is also the issue of physical development, because solids don't contain the same nutrients as breastmilk and formula, which are both "designed" to promote optimum development in your child. If you introduce solids too soon, the child can cut back on their milk intake and it will possibly impact development.

All I asked on my post was " is it to young" it's a friendly question and and all I wanted was advice see what other mothers do, not actually take your advice .
And don't you dare!!! Make me feel like I am some horrible mum and come onto my post and attack me? I was hinting it out to another person who was attacking me before any of you came on !!! I HAVE EVERY RIGHT to post WHAT EVER I WANt on this page when ever I want and regardless of what u think !!! I'm sure you've posted something about your children just for advice? And not following them because you thought some way you were doing it was right for your kid! Don't go making mums feel stupid !!! You have a terrible way of making mothers feel like their harming their kids or your like TOTALLY THE BEST. please get off this page and go else where !!

Thank you so much I feel much better now! I feel like the previous comments were attacking me rather then giving me friendly advice which is all I needed!! I feel so much better now. My son seems so happy and enjoys the fruit purée !! I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong! My mum told me she fed me food before 4 months and I turned out fine!

I guess each child reacts differently. So why on earth do they sell in the markets and stores 4 months plus for baby purée such as fruits and veggies ??
Breast milk is best I know 100% I wouldn't give it up for anything !
I'm just speaking based on what i can see in my family and what friends are doing . They're giving their children one pouch of fruit purée a day and their children are absolutely fine no problems at all . I guess it is just a personal choice so many people groups communities doctors etc are going to say what they recommend and suggest. I guess it goes by what parents choose to do rather then what others think is best. I just feel my son is ready and I know he will be ok with what in feeding him . He seems happy and its not like im over doing it !!! 6 months is basically suggested best for children who begin meat and chicken fish etc the chunkier purée foods!

It can cause harm... but there's no telling if it WILL until the damage is done.

I started my first at 3.5 months and there are still no issues yet at 13 years old, but now that I know there is a potential risk... my youngest didn't start til 6 months.
