Hi all. My daughter is 4 months and 3 days old and I started feeding her rice cereal and oatmeal cereal. Tonight I just gave her sweet potato jarred baby food and she LOVED IT! She has been getting way too hungry after each feeding too quickly and I thought it was time for the solids. I know times have changed but when I was a baby.. I was fed all these things and I turned out fine. She seemed to really enjoy it. Has anyone else done this? Thanks!

okay this may be a really silly question, but for for those who suggested oatmeal, is there specific baby oatmeal or could i just puree "adult" oatmeal.

I DID!!!! My son daughter was four months old and my son was 2.5 months old when I started solids. My son was absolutely starving after his bottle and that teaspoon of cereal made all the difference in the world. As you said our parents started solids a lot faster then we did and I have a lot of friends who were told by their mothers that they were eating mashed potatoes at 2 wks of age!!! What I know is that each child is different and each hit their milestones at different ages and they are each ready to eat at different times. If she took to it immediately she was ready and remember, that the websites and doctors recommend are guidelines....they aren't set in stone.

Yes, i started feeding my daughter solids at 4 months, just baby rice and yogurt, but she loved it straight away. Now she gets upset when we finish feedinh even though shes full up. Shes 5 months now and already she likes to hold the spoon and try to feed herself. I think its great because shes learning already!

I started my son on rice cereal around 4 months but he preferred the oatmeal also. After about a month of it plain (made with formula) I added applesauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon and he loved it! To this day, it's my "go-to" breakfast. Only now that he's 18 months I just buy a big tub of the regular Quaker Oatmeal (the kind you have to cook on the stove).

Hello! My son was around four months when he started taking cereal. He was a big boy and was drinking both breast and formula! He was fine but his poos went from innocent to insulting! My grandmother started feeding me when i was a month old and I was fine.

my boy eats rice in his formula in the morning and once at night. which we started when he was 3 1/2 months.... we also tried to give it to him on a spoon but he did like it. last week when he was 4 month 1 week we gave him peas and he loved it... am trying carrots this week... have had no bad reactions so far!

You sound like you are doing a great job! My daughter started to be interested in food at 3 months so we started solids then! We have had no issues and all! I found a website that really helped me with baby food recipes! I just ignored the age guidelines because my daughter was much younger! http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

At my sons four month check up the Dr. suggested rice or oatmeal cereal (he likes oatmeal the best) once a day for a week. Then two times a day for a week. then after a week of doing it twice a day, start on Vegies. We started out with carrots, he didn't like them to much. Then sweet potatos HE LOVES THEM!. he has cereal in the morning tators at noon and cereal at night! He does just fine, and no tummy aches!

I hope your daughter continues to eat well !!!

I was also told to do the veggies first then fruits because the fruits are sweeter and they will be more likely to eat veggies when they grow up.

Yeah.. I like the oatmeal cereal better. The rice cereal definitely made her constipated!

its fine at 4 months! my daughters dieticians put her on them at 3 months. i agree with staying away from rice cereal tho because of the constipation i gave her more the pureed fruits and vegies.

Thanks all! I just joined this site and everyone is so nice. I love being able to talk to other moms! When I talk to my friends that are single and don't have children about my daughter's poop.. it just isn't the same! Lol. :O)

Yes I did this with my child I started him on cereal (oatmeal) at about amonth and a half... and I stayed away from Rice because it causes constipation. But I think that maybe you should stick with some fruit before you intrduce the veggies, fruit is easier on the tummy...! Good luck!

Go ahead and give her foods. Our doc told us to do cereal for a week then do foods. But do your orange and yellows for a few days then the greens, and if she has reaction to them you can start fruits. my daughter was the same way would have cereal then get hungry right away, so i did foods then. She is a health normal one year old. hopes this help with your decision to keep feeding foods.

Thank you so much! It's nice to hear someone on the same boat as me. I'm so used to hearing, "OH MY GOD YOU CAN'T DO THAT.. THAT'S GOING TO HURT HER!!" People really listen to EVERYTHING the Academy of Pediatrics says. She seemed ready so that's why I did. I appreciate your input! Your son is ADORABLE! :O)

I started my son at 2 weeks and my daughter, they both did fine, my son just had gas. My only advise don't do to much at once. Good Luck!

Yes, our Dr. suggested rice cereal after his 4 month check up because he was only pooping once a week. We've tried pears, peaches, carrots and oatmeal cereal. It was a no-go with peas and squash. As long as your baby can hold her head up well, and opens her mouth for a spoon, and knows how to swallow it it should be fine. Just wait 3-5 days between new foods to watch for allergic reactions. Heinz has a great website on starting solids, and a "Food Journal" too. Best of luck!!
