Good morning! This morning I woke up with a runny nose and I have lots of pressure in my head. I'm sure it's a cold but I breastfeed my 4 month old and I was just curious if it is still okay to breastfeed while sick?

Thanks :)

Yes. Whatever you are suffering right now will be developing antibodies, so your child will be fine. The big concern will be more about close contact to mouth and nose. Breastfeeding you can do without close contact. Colds/flus are not spread via breastmilk, but via other methods such as sneezing, coughing, etc.

This is an old post but know that when you are sick with a virus, you make antibodies. those are passed in your milk and will help your child not catch what you have. So yes, unless you are on a medication that requires you to not breastfeed, keep at it. Two of my kids caught chicken pox when my baby was 3 months, she did not despite lots of exposure to her siblings. I believe this is because I have had chicken pox, she received my antibodies and they protected her.

it isn't gonna harm the baby unless you get antibiotics for it, so please try to avoid antibiotics and go for some home remedies as there are numerous herbal and organic formulas easily available. "cold be gone tea" I know is really good for this, try it once if you can manage it.
