Hello. My 14 month old swam in a public pool today and now she has a 104 fever? Ive reviewed some things online that could have caused this ie: Adenovirus infection. She was perfectly healthy and fine before but about four hours after coming home, I noticed her feet and head were hot, no other part of her body. I took her temp.. 104. Does anyone have any feedback for me? This is my third child so I am not rady to take her to ER just yet.... I gave her tylenol to get the fever down but want to make sure that was the right thing to do. Never had this happen before. Thank you

Some thing similar is happening to my nephew. Post pool swimming (2 occasions) he has come down with a fever. No other symptoms. The fever goes away after a day or two.

It could be a number of things. In the UK a doctor would suggest giving her junior paracetamol and ibruprophen to act together to bring the temperature down. Place a cold flannel on her head and if the temperature does not come down in a couple of hours you will have no choice but to get her checked out. A maintained high temperature in a child so small can be dangerous and needs to be checked out. Try the meds and flannel first.

The fact that she is sick likely has nothing to do with her swimming at the pool, she likely caught somethingSomething somewhere else. Viruses and bacteria need more than a few hours gestation to cause a fever. Having said that, a fever that high is likely a bacterial infection, she should be seen because if it is she may need a course of antibiotics. What are her other Symptoms? You shouldn't just Google fever and assume what she has. Does she have diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, difficulty Breathing? Could she have a bladder infection (possible if no other signs of infection other than fever). If her fever were lower, I would advise it is likely viral and will pass, but 104 is pretty high. Give her some Tylenol or ibuprofen but still take her to be checked out.
