Yesterday my daughter (10 months) woke up with a fever of 102.5, so we gave her tylenol and called the doctor. We took her in a couple hours later and her temp was only 99. He said she had a cold and was teething. This morning she woke up with a temp of 103.7........any ideas on why?

What have you done to reduce fevers? Do your kids get temperatures while teething?

When do I need to take her to the ER? When it's 105?

That's too high for it to be teething--likely the cold. If it is a virus, there isn't much they can do. Just keep giving tylenol and/or motrin. Personally, motrin has always worked better for my family. However, if the fever stays in that range, you need to call your doctor. The main problem is if a fever spikes--goes from low to high quickly (can cause febrile seizures). But, if it is just maintaining at a moderate level (I THINK it is 104 degrees and under that is considered moderate...but not 100% on that) you should be ok.
Be REALLY careful with the cool bath thing...if the fever is too high a bath that is too cool can cause shock. When my son was 2.5 he had a febrile seizure and his fever was controlled with tylenol and motrin around the clock--both at the same time...but this should only be done under medical care. We were told to keep him undressed to keep him cool, but to absolutely avoid cool baths.
Your Health Insurer may also provide a nurse hotline number on the back of you health insurance card that you can call too. Good luck!

How is she behaving? Is she eating and drinking? I would worry about pnamonia (sp) myself, or dehydration at that age.

Thanks for your help. Her temp is going up and down between 100 and 103...I guess we'll just keep an eye on it...

You can always call the Dr on call and ask. Keep in using Tylenol and give her cool baths to keep her temp down. I've heard of babies having temps while teething but I don't know how high.
